Examination - Diagnosis
As Izmir Akademi Dental, we aim to provide you with a safe and high-quality treatment experience through a detailed examination. In this process, we make use of technology with our dental tomography and X-ray devices. We recommend regular check-ups for oral and dental health, where early diagnosis and treatment are extremely important.

Gum Disease Treatments
Gum diseases are serious conditions that arise from inflammation of the tissues surrounding the teeth and can progress to tooth loss if left untreated. The most common symptoms include gum bleeding, redness, swelling, and gum recession.
Gum bleeding that occurs while brushing, flossing, or chewing hard foods is often the first sign of gingivitis (gum inflammation). Plaque that accumulates on the teeth eventually turns into tartar that harbors bacterial colonies. Over time, this bacterial buildup leads to gum recession and bone loss, reducing the support of the teeth.
We recommend having your teeth cleaned every 6 months to 1 year, as this can lead to the early loss of even non-decayed teeth.
Gum bleeding detected at an early stage can be controlled with regular tartar cleaning and proper brushing techniques. Persistent bleeding indicates that the inflammation has progressed into deeper tissues and that periodontitis may be developing.
Gum recession can result in tooth sensitivity, aesthetic problems, and eventually tooth mobility. The main causes of gum recession include gum diseases, aggressive brushing, improper toothbrush use, teeth grinding, and crooked teeth.
As the recession progresses, tooth roots become exposed and the risk of decay increases. In advanced cases, the bone tissue supporting the teeth may also be lost, which can lead to tooth loss. Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment can slow the progression of gum recession
.
Endodontics (Root Canal Treatment)
The pulp inside the tooth (nerve and vascular tissue) can become inflamed or irreversibly damaged due to decay, trauma, cracks, or advanced gum diseases. In such cases, severe pain, sensitivity to hot and cold, night pain, and sometimes facial swelling may occur. In order to prevent advanced infections and possible jawbone loss, our clinic aims to save the tooth from extraction by cleaning the infected pulp tissue with endodontic treatment.
In addition, we aim to save the tooth by renewing previously performed root canal treatments that have failed for various reasons (retreatment) or by removing the lesion at the root tip with apical resection.

Teeth Whitening (Bleaching)
Teeth whitening is a cosmetic dentistry procedure used to give teeth that have discolored or yellowed over time a brighter and more aesthetic appearance. Tea, coffee, smoking, colored beverages, aging and some medications can cause permanent staining on teeth.
Teeth whitening is generally applied with two methods: in-office whitening performed under a dentist's supervision in a clinic and tray-supported whitening used at home. In office methods, more noticeable results are achieved in a shorter time, while at-home methods progress more slowly but in a more controlled way. In both methods, it is important that the teeth and gums are healthy and that a dental examination is performed before the procedure. Store-bought products and uncontrolled whitening agents purchased from the internet carry risks because they can damage tooth enamel and gums.
After the procedure, avoiding very hot and cold foods and strongly colored beverages in the first days, not smoking, and maintaining regular oral hygiene increases the longevity of the results. Teeth whitening is not a permanent procedure; depending on eating habits and oral care, it may need to be repeated at certain intervals. The most appropriate method and duration should be determined individually by a dentist.

Prosthesis (Crown) Applications
Dental prostheses are custom-made artificial teeth used to restore the function and aesthetics of missing teeth. They aim to improve quality of life by enhancing chewing, speech, and smile aesthetics. Today, thanks to modern materials and technologies, dentures have become more comfortable, more natural-looking, and longer-lasting.
Types of Dental Prostheses
Dental prostheses are divided into different types according to the number of missing teeth, jaw structure, and the patient's expectations.
- Removable prostheses: They can be made as full or partial and can be inserted and removed by the patient. They are generally preferred in cases of multiple missing teeth.
- Fixed prostheses: These are prostheses such as bridges and crowns that are cemented to the teeth and cannot be removed by the patient. They feel closer to natural teeth.
- Implant-supported prostheses: These are fixed or removable prostheses applied over implants placed in the jawbone. They offer high retention and comfort .
Advantages of Dental Prosthetics
- It reduces chewing difficulties caused by missing teeth.
- It helps correct speech disorders.
- It provides a more youthful appearance by preventing the collapse of facial features.
- It prevents remaining natural teeth from shifting position and becoming misaligned.
Use and Care of Dental Prostheses
Regular maintenance of dental prostheses is very important for long-lasting and healthy use. Removable prostheses should be taken out every day and gently cleaned with a special denture brush and appropriate cleaning agents. For fixed prostheses, plaque buildup should be prevented through dental floss, interdental brushes, and regular tooth brushing.
Keeping up with check-up appointments is necessary for the prosthesis's fit, chewing function, and the health of oral tissues. In cases such as loosening, sore spots, or fractures that may develop over time, one should not attempt to repair the prosthesis at home but must consult a dentist.

Dental İmplantology
Dental implantology is a field of dentistry that provides permanent solutions for missing teeth using titanium screws and prosthetic teeth placed on top. Implants placed in the jawbone act like natural tooth roots, providing both aesthetic and functional comfort.
Advantages of Dental Implants
- Natural appearance: Results very close to natural teeth in color and form.
- Comfortable use: Since they do not move, speech and chewing functions are more comfortable.
- Reducing bone loss: Helps slow bone resorption by stimulating the jawbone.
- Long-lasting solution: With proper care, implants can be used for many years.
Implant Treatment Process
Implant treatment begins with a detailed examination and radiological assessment. After determining suitable bone structure, the implant is placed under local anesthesia. During the healing process, osseointegration is awaited, and then an abutment and prosthetic tooth are attached. In some cases, immediate loading implant options may also be considered.
Who is it suitable for?
Adults with good general health, sufficient jawbone structure for implants, and who pay attention to oral hygiene may be candidates for dental implant treatment. Smoking, uncontrolled diabetes, and some systemic diseases may pose risk factors, so a detailed evaluation before treatment is important.
Care and Check-ups
For dental implants to be long-lasting, regular tooth brushing, flossing, and periodic dental check-ups are required. Professional cleaning and radiographic follow-ups help maintain the health of the tissues around the implant.
